March 2015 Emergency Services Net Calendar

Our big event for March will be our SKYWARN Training Class.  The class will be held on the third Thursday, March 19th, and will replace our normal ACS meeting.  The event will be held at the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center Theater (Cleveland State) located at 3535 Adkisson Dr NW and will begin at 6:00PM.  Go to the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club Facebook page or Cleveland ACS Facebook page to register.

Meeting March 10

The next regular meeting will be a business session on March 10 at 7 pm. The program scheduled for the February 24 meeting that was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions will be held on March 24.

SPECIAL NOTE: The meeting on Feb. 24 has been cancelled due to weather conditions.  Program will be rescheduled for a later meeting.

Tomorrow is the 4th Tuesday of the month, and will be a combined Business and Presentation meeting.

I understand Derrick has something interesting to show us about how to teach an old WiFi router new tricks.

Ice in the Parking Lot

Due to a broken water main, there is a large amount of ice on the road and in the parking lot. Please use caution if you plan to be at the clubhouse this weekend.

Jim Blackburn hopes 2015 will be the year the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club moves forward with an addition to their clubhouse / communications center on Johnson Boulevard.

Blackburn is serving as president of one of Tennessee’s most active amateur radio clubs. He was elected to a second term in office at the club’s November election.

His message for 2015 is two-fold.  The CARC is more than a hobby radio club but is an organization that is active in providing community services throughout the year. Secondly, the clubhouse/communications center is a busy place that needs expansion.

“For several years plans have been ‘on the drawing board’ for a much needed addition to our building for current needs.  Our membership has started several new educational and informative programs that have shown the need to expand our existing space,” Blackburn explained.  Continue reading
